Things to see: The whole region is renowned not only for its food and wine but also for its fascinating history with its beautiful chateaux, abbeys and fortified towns. From La Maison du Chateau you are in easy driving distance of the ancient towns of Auxerre, Avallon, Dijon, Noyers, Saulieu, Vezelay, and even Beaune and Autun. The Abbeys of Fontenay and Pontigny, the magnificent chateaux of Ancy-le-Franc, Epoisses and Tanlay, to mention a few. The Forges de Buffon, the wine town of Chablis, the spectacular fortified town of Semur-en-Auxois, and the charming hill top village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain (where the film 'Chocolat' was made) are all within forty minutes. There are a surprising number of treasures hidden away in this wonderfully peaceful and unspoilt area.

Wine, Restaurants and Shopping: There are many excellent restaurants, both discovered and undiscovered. The baker calls daily but main shopping is either 6 minutes away at Ravières or at Montbard (15 minutes). Both towns have markets, supermarkets and smaller shops. We recommend some special wine discoveries we have made, so that you can buy wine at excellent prices (often with an extra discount for our visitors) in such places as Chablis, St Bris, Irancy, and around Dijon and Beaune. The most southerly champagne region is only 45 minutes away. Our favourite is delicious and very good value (all telephone numbers, etc. are in our House Book).

Local Activities: Wine Tasting (we have a good contact who can organise an afternoon wine tasting or tastings at the house), tennis (our own simple grass tennis court and we have arranged free unlimited use for our tenants, of an excellent all weather court, 5 minutes away by car), riding, golf, hot-air ballooning, swimming, sailing and boating on the Lac du Pont and boating on the peaceful Canal de Bourgogne. This beautiful canal runs parallel to the river Armançon, just 500 yards from our gates, and is also a perfect place for walking and bicycling in all seasons as it wanders through the beautiful countryside (bicycles of all sizes are available for hire in our village).
We have a House Book at La Maison du Chateau for you to browse through. It is full of information and recommendations. But we find many visitors find it hard to tear themselves away from the delights of La Maison du Chateau itself.
