Excellent Restaurants
There are a large number of restaurants close to La Maison du Chateau, ranging from simply furnished places with bistro style burgundian food, to places serving very high quality, some of which are Michelin Starred.
Because our prices include our wonderful cook Delphine, who cooks you beautifully layed out buffets lunches and delicious 3 or 4 course dinners, there is not a need to be eating out a great deal while staying at the house. However, her day off is a great time to sample some of the restaurants around. Below are a handful of the places we and previous guests have discovered. There is more in our 'House Book' once you arrive at La Maison du Chateau.
Tante Lisette, Ravieres (5 mins): The couple who run this are very friendly (she is English, he is French). Excellent food, open everyday for lunch and Friday/Saturday evenings. For reasonable sized groups, they are happy to open on other evenings if requested in advance.
Le Marronier, Buffon (7 mins): Really good food. Our current favourite locally. Open every day.
La Mirabelle, St. Remy (10 mins): Also very good. Run by a charming couple. Some of the items on the menu are outstanding.
Chateau de Malaisy, Fain Les Montbard (25 mins): Recommended as "full blown, quite formal, very good indeed"
La Grange, Flavingy-sur-Ozerian (35 mins): Wonderful for lunches. This is a converted barn near the church where the village community run a restaurant with delicious home produce food and local wines. Excellent value and a wonderful atmosphere with long refectory tables (and log fire when appropriate).
Le Pot d'Etain, L'lsle-sur-Serein (40 mins): If this was closer it would probably be our favourite. A charming family-owned restaurant with excellent cooking and an outstanding wine list.
Hostellerie des Clos (1 star), Chablis (45 mins): Reliably good. Deserves its star.
L'Esperance (2 star), St. Pere, Vezeley (45 mins): Used ot be considered one of the best restaurants in France. Marc Meneau (owner and chef) and his wife are very much in evidence.
La Cote d'Or (3 star), Saulieu (50 mins): Bernard Loiseau sadly died in May 2003. he was one of the great chefs of France and he ran this marvellous restaurant which is now considered one of the best in Burgundy.
