Seasons: The climate is continental. The swimming pool is open from before Easter until November. April and May are a carpet of wild flowers in the park with primroses and cowslips giving way to the flowers of high summer shimmering in the tall grass before the hay is cut in June. It is the time of nightingales and the golden oriole and a host of other birds who love the microclimate of the park.

In high summer the river is slow and the park dreamy. Salad lunches by the pool, picnic lunches (all deliciously made for you by the cook if you wish) on our river, where you can row in the boat, fish, swim and even cross to our own little island. The home-made grass tennis court comes into its own, as does the croquet and of course the swimming pool.

After the High Season, September and October often produce an Indian Summer. This is the period of the wine harvest. The Virginia Creeper on the house turns from green to red and it is a time when you see the usually shy red squirrels. As in all seasons, bicycling is lovely on the uncrowded roads and along the canal towpaths and there is still swimming in the heated pool.

Winter, too, has it's own magic. A wonderful place for Christmas and/or New Year. The days are often crisp and clear. Temperatures can drop well below freezing, but the house is warm with central heating and a big log fire in the salon. There are lovely walks in the park, along the canal and up into the forests. It is an excellent time for visits to the local churches and abbeys, perhaps with a few calls on the local winegrowers and restaurants of the region. The Burgundians know how to live all the year round!
